Pico de Orizaba
Pico de Orizaba, also known as Citlaltépetl, is the highest mountain in Mexico, measuring 5,636 meters above sea level. It protects high mountain environments with diverse flora and fauna species.
Information
From the summit of this volcano, the rivers Blanco, Cotaxtla, Jamapa, Metlac, and Orizaba originate, all of which are part of the Papaloapan River basin, as well as the Balsas River and its tributaries, which form the Balsas River basin.
It provides water to numerous communities in 6 municipalities in Puebla and at least 25 municipalities in Veracruz.
The park exhibits four types of vegetation: fir forest, pine forest, grassland, and high-altitude paramo.
The fauna in the area belongs to the high tropical natural zone. Some of the main species that can be found include bobcats, weasels, rabbits, badgers, raccoons, coyotes, hawks, blue jays, mockingbirds, hummingbirds, among others.
For mountaineering enthusiasts, Pico de Orizaba represents a real challenge as walking through its scree, ridges, and glacier makes it one of the most beautiful mountains in Latin America.
