The Nevado de Toluca is a Mexican volcano located in the state of Mexico, in the Toluca Valley. It is situated 22 km southwest of the state capital.
It reaches an elevation of 4,645 meters above sea level, making it the 4th highest mountain in Mexico. It is part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt and the Pacific Ring of Fire, and it is listed among the active volcanoes in Mexico.
The crater has an elliptical shape, and its bottom is occupied by two drinking water lagoons separated by a lava stream or vault: the Laguna del Sol and the Laguna de la Luna. Both bodies of water are connected through filtration, as they occupy the space of the volcano's chimneys.
